These five-star cakes are turning heads on the internet, but 21-year-old Alex Kidd said they started off as a hobby.
Alex said: “I’ve always loved food, and I used to bake with my Gran when I was little. And I love art so I combined art and cakes.”
Alex has many amazing designs on her site, For Cakes Sake , including an Irn Bru design, a Buckfast one, and her personal favourite – a set of bagpipes. And the public seem to love them too.
Customer Lisa McLean wrote under a red velvet creation: “Best cake ever! Thanks so much.”
And Natalia Clark adored her carousel themed cake for a Christening, writing: “Absolutely loved it, as did everyone there! Thanks so much again!”
Alex works almost around the clock, spending the days at her job as a civil servant, baking the fabulous creations in the evenings between 5pm and 11pm while also spending Saturday morning in the kitchen.
Hoping to open her own bakery in five years, Alex spent two months training at a bakery in Canada, securing an internship there.
Speaking about her experience, Alex said: “It was amazing. It confirmed my love for baking and I learned so much.”
As much as Alex loves baking, her friends and family seem to love it more, with a guaranteed cake on their special days – plus her boyfriend has the perk of stealing the leftovers.
