It’s world Buckfast day!
Buckateers across the world are taking part in worldwide celebration of the iconic tonic today.
The celebration started two years ago with 25,000 recognising the event and now Scotland’s beloved Buckfast has now gone global.
Stewart Wilson, Buckfast’s sales manager, said: ‘There seems to be a host of events organised again this year to celebrate world Buckfast day. We would urge all participants to enjoy the day responsibly.’
Despite being brewed by monks in England, Buckfast has been deeply embedded in Scottish culture for decades with a cameo in Trainspotting and stars such as Ed Sheeran admitting to trying Bucky during their time in Scotland.
The drink has been linked with controversy over the years with MSPs voting on banning Buckfast in 2010 in a bid to tackle the country’s binge drinking problem.
Labour proposed a limit for the amount of caffeine permitted in alcoholic drinks with the level half that of Buckfast’s.
